A story in the Arizona Daily Star’s Thursday edition, page A1 misstated services being contemplated for an alternative health center with links to Dr. Andrew Weil that is being touted as a possible addition to the Rio Nuevo Downtown redevelopment project. The services being discussed for the facility include: an exhibition center for lectures and information about alternative medicine; a center to help plan healthy vacations; and referrals to physicians trained in integrative medicine near visitors’ homes. Plans do not include spa services or medical treatment.
Life is a journey, and the path is seldom straight. We can bemoan the twists and turns involved in getting from A to B every day (or, to extend the metaphor, from A to Z over a lifetime), but why not celebrate them? That is one of many lessons taught by the newest attraction on Dr. Weil’s southeastern Arizona homestead. It is a labyrinth, a modern reconstruction of an ancient form that has fascinated people for millennia. “They are found all over the world,” says Dr. Weil, waving a hand at the 12 concentric circles of stones. “A labyrinth isn’t a maze. A maze is designed to confuse you. A labyrinth has one way in, one way out, and lets you see where you are at all times. It’s really a meditation device.” Read more about Weil’s maze at Live Journal >>>
