Boston Mycological Club

Billed as the “oldest mycological club in American, the Boston Mycological Club (BMC) was founded in 1895. The objects of this club are to study local native fungi, particularly those useful for food, or otherwise of economic importance; and to collect, record, and make known in regard to them information that shall have both scientific and practical value. There are weekly field trips, usually on Sundays, from early July through late October. (Sometimes from late June through early November.) These are usually within driving distance of Boston, but range across southeast New England, from Gloucester to Cape Cod to southern New Hampshire to Concord and farther west. Each Monday evening following a walk an identification meeting is held in the Club room, at which time specimens collected are further examined, and doubtful ones identified with the help of the Club library. In addition, on the first Monday of every month during the off season a meeting is devoted to talks and exhibits. The subjects cover various aspects of mycology, mushroom cookery, mushrooms in art and history, photography, et cetera. This is a vital and active club, affiliated with North American Mycological Assocation. Visit the BMC site for more information.
