The Maine Mycological Association (MMA) is a group of amateur and professional fanciers of wild mushrooms and other fungi. It was formed in 1985 from a workshop conducted at the Maine Audubon Society by Dr. Sam Ristich. MMA now has over two hundred members. They publish a quarterly newsletter, “Mainely Mushrooms,” and conduct several forays each month during the better weather. They also hold monthly winter meetings featuring presentations by MMA members and Maine scientists and advanced students on scientific subjects related to mycology.
Since this association’s site is hosted by Mushroom the Journal of Wild Mushrooming, the MMA page is rather sparse. But, don’t let that page fool you. The MMA has a considerable library of mycology-related books, monographs, newsletters of numerous clubs (not complete), historical materials, and misc. that is available to members and to the general public. Visit the MMA site to learn more about this club’s activities and accomplishments. MMA is affiliated with NAMA.
