More Oregon Mycological Groups

You might have noticed that I’ve focused on links to Oregon Mycological Associations over the past few days. This effort reflects a goal to include as many organizations that focus on mycological education as possible at Fungifest. Oregon was my first objective simply because it’s located in the top left-hand corner of the contiguous continental U.S. states. Yes, I can be arbitrary. More states will be added as the winter rolls on.

With that said, some Oregon groups don’t maintain Websites. One group, the Lincoln County Mycological Society located in Otter Rock, Oregon, can be reached through NAMA since this organization is affiliated with that group. In fact, at this point in time, that group represents the only Oregon group affiliated with NAMA that doesn’t maintain an online venue.

MykoWeb also lists Oregon groups that can be reached through email, snail mail, or by phone, such as the Mount Mazama Mushroom Association located in Medford, the Oregon Coast Mycological Collective located in Florence, and the Pacific Northwest Key Council, located in Portland.

If a mycological organization doesn’t maintain a Website, don’t let that omission put you off. Every mushroom group in the world began with someone who knew about mushrooms or who wanted to learn more, and the lack of a Website doesn’t mitigate that fact. In fact, smaller groups just might be your cup of tea, so don’t hesitate to contact those group leaders.

This list represents all the Oregon Mycological associations that I’ve discovered to date. If you know about more groups, or if you want to add more information to existing group listings, just contact me.
