Truffle News

A world record of the while truffle cost was topped at a Sunday auction in Italy. A large mushroom was sold for 125,000 euros, while last year’s record was 95,000. The truffle was purchased by a Japanese citizen, whose bid was larger than 120,000 euros offered by French actor Gerard Depardieu. That’s $160,406US. The auction was held in northern Italy, while Paris and Hong Kong was attached to the trading through a TV bridge. Read more at FOX.

St Alvere (24 Dordogne, Aquitaine) claims to be the first village in France to have its own online truffle market. Known as the black truffle of Périgord, it is harvested between November and March, with the market open from 1 December. As well as having updated prices (in season) the site has recipes and “technical informations” about truffles. Visit the site for more information (they have an English link).
