Permaculture Reflections

Permaculture ReflectionsScott A. Meister and “DJEB” have created a very thoughtful and detailed blog on permaculture. One article, “Fungi in Soils,” details how fungi are a vital component of soil life, and that fact is explained with enthusiasm…

Within a gram of healthy soil, there are between 10 and 20 million fungi and between 3 and 300 meters of fungal hyphae (roots)!

The author (DJEB in this case) explains saprotrophs, mutualists, and pathogens in just enough details to allow a layman to understand their purposes. The piece ends with the advice to avoid disturbing the land and to refrain from the use of artificial fertilizers and herbicides or pesticides so that cover crops can provide a permanent host for mycorrhizal fungi. Brilliant. Visit the site to learn more.
