Residents and politicians fighting to save a city beauty spot in Cardiff, Wales, were celebrating mushrooms this past weekend. The party was sparked after a High Court judge upheld a decision granting Llanishen reservoir protected status because of its colonies of waxcap fungi (Hygrocybe). Campaigners said it would be a crucial decision in their fight to stop owner Western Power Distribution building more than 300 homes on the site of the Cardiff reservoir. Ted Thurgood, of the Residents Action Group, said: ‘There were parties across the north of Cardiff last night.
‘But this is not the end of the battle, we will be fighting on.’
Rock on!
