I’m an active writer, journalist, poet, graphic designer, and fine artist with an undergraduate degree in visual communications and a graduate degree in history. My interests include international travel, culture, and business and finance. My twenty-five year writing career includes thirteen Colorado Press Association awards for journalism, a series of articles and a book about visual communications and an upcoming book about Website accessibility issues for a software development community, and over two hundred and fifty articles for BuyandHold’s weekly financial column, “Mom Chronicles.”
While my education, career, and interests may seem disparate, my underlying focus is on how people generate ideas, how they communicate their thoughts, and how they eventually put their ideas into practice. To this end, fungi folks have always fascinated me, because they come from a variety of lifestyles and yet meet as peers at mushroom events. The primal link at these events, I believe, is the mycelial web. The mycelia of many species may survive for many years, sometimes even for centuries, so there might be hope for the human race yet…
I attended my first mushroom festival in Telluride, CO during August of 1993 (I have a photo around here somewhere…), and every year for five years I attended lectures given by Andy Weil, Gary Lincoff, Paul Stamets and many other fine fungal folk. After a four-year stint to finalize my undergraduate and graduate degrees, I’m now back on track to offer you a convenient calendar for mushroom events to help keep the mycelial net alive. Stay tuned as I add more mushroom material…
Why Register? Why Log in?
Two reasons why I’ve arranged this blog for registration and log-in to comment on this site: 1) Spam artists are prolific and clever, and registration makes it more difficult for those buggers to leave comments, and; 2) If you take the time to register, then I know that you have serious intent – if it’s malicious intent, then I have a record to find you. If not malicious intent, then I still have a record to find you, but for more pleasurable reasons. Thanks!
Contact Information
I’m leery about posting a contact form, as I’ve received an overabundance of spam in the past. But, now that the spam has dwindled to a drip – thanks to our server crash and the elimination of previous programming and a change in that same programming and spam filters – I’ve decided to post a contact form. This is a tentative addition. You can contact me about any information relevant to Fungifest here.
